LAS VEGAS — The Ultimate Sumo League, the newest professional sports league, will debut in Las Vegas April 28, 2018, when the world’s finest Rikishi (Sumo Wrestlers) compete at Park Theater at Monte Carlo Resort and Casino. Ultimate Sumo League President Noah Goldman made the announcement Feb. 2 at Toshiba Plaza, where exhibition matches were held to demonstrate the sport. Goldman was joined by six-time U.S. National Sumo Champion Robert Daniel (Memphis, TN), 12-time U.S. Sumo Champion Dan Kalbfleisch (Los Angeles, CA) and Soslan Gagloev (Russia) who competes in the Japanese Professional League.
The U.S. and World Tour League plans to hold competitions in New York, Orlando, London, Paris, Los Angeles, Hawaii, Seattle and other major cities.The League anticipates distributing content on live television and streaming online. It is developing a line of merchandise, and will offer clinics and academies to teach Sumo wrestling.
