Robert Gordon from the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America to discuss dangerous driving behaviors, why traffic accidents are on the rise, and give driver safety tips
Back-up cameras, side proximity warnings and computer aided car technology are definitely making cars safer and providing a smoother ride, but just because we have safer cars, it doesn’t mean we have  safer roads.
Fatal crashes took the lives of more than 35,000 people in 2015, a 7.2-percent increase, the largest percentage increase in nearly 50 years.
Robert Gordon, the senior vice president, Policy Development and Research for the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI), discusses the results of a poll revealing some of the most dangerous driving behaviors. He will also explain why the roads are not as safe as people think, give tips on how to reduce traffic accidents and what parents should be advising to teen drivers.
Dangers of the Road include:
More Cars: More cars on the road, means more driving which means more accidents. States with more congested roads are seeing higher increases in accidents
Poorly Maintained Roads: High percentages of the nation’s roads and bridges are in poor condition, increasing the risk of a traffic incident
Driver Experience: Higher numbers of older drivers more prone to crashes and injuries as well as younger, inexperienced drivers are on the roads today
Driver Behavior: Distracted driving tops the list as one of the biggest hazards on the roads
Distracted Walking: Smart phones, texting and Pokemon Go has led to an increase in ER visits for pedestrians
