TIPS FOR KEEPING YOUR CHILDREN SAFE ON AND OFF THE FOOTBALL FIELD FROM NOCSAE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR MIKE OLIVER
Summer is winding down and the kids are already back in their football camps, preparing for their upcoming seasons under the Friday night lights. Tackling, agility drills, and conditioning are part of the everyday routine. We already know the importance of hydration, but there is something else that is critical to your child’s safety on the football field – knowing your helmet and taking measures to prevent concussions.
Right in time for football season, Mike Oliver will discuss concussion prevention:

About Mike Oliver: Mike Oliver has been the Executive Director and General Counsel for the National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment (NOCSAE) since 1995. As Executive Director he manages the day-to-day operations, provides a direct resource for the public on questions regarding equipment performance, safety, and injury prevention in connection with athletic equipment that has been certified to the NOCSAE standard. In addition to speaking at many athletic and coaching events around the country, Mr. Oliver has testified before Congress, and regularly provides support and input to subcommittees of various sport governing bodies including the NCAA and the NFHS.
Mr. Oliver also oversees the multi-million dollar NOCSAE research grant program administered by Fred Mueller Ph.D. at the University of North Carolina, and the technical services functions of the Southern Impact Research Center, the NOCSAE contract testing laboratory administered by Mr. David Halstead.
He is a trial attorney of 30 years of litigation experience with more than 125 jury trials to verdict, including cases involving medicine, science and product performance. He has a B.S. in Political Science, and a Juris Doctor in Law.
About NOCSAE: NOCSAE (pronounced “noxey”) is the acronym for the National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment, a nonprofit corporation formed in 1969 in response to a need for a performance test standard for football helmets. NOCSAE consists of a board of directors which is comprised of representatives from the American College Health Association, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, American College of Sports Medicine, American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, American Academy of Pediatrics, Athletic Equipment Managers Association, American Football Coaches Association, National Athletic Equipment Reconditioners Association, National Athletic Trainers Association, Sports & Fitness Industry Association, NCAA and the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS).
