Thousands turned out March 1 at UNLV’s Thomas & Mack Center to celebrate the life and career of legendary former Runnin’ Rebel head coach Jerry Tarkanian. The head coach of UNLV’s 1990 NCAA National Championship men’s basketball team and member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, Tarkanian passed away Feb. 11 at the age of 84. As coach of the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels men’s basketball team from 1973-1992, Tarkanian posted a 509-105 (.829), and took four teams to the NCAA Final Four, winning the national championship in 1990 in a 103-73 runaway over Duke.
