AARP Retirement Expert Gives Important Tips for Financial Security and Shares Free Online Health Care Costs Calculator

According to a new AARP survey, more than half of workers over fifty are worried they won’t be able to afford paying for their own health care as they age. Although the vast majority surveyed most said you should start saving by the time you reach age 35, just a quarter actually did so.

On Wednesday, October 8th, Deborah Banda, AARP’s Interim VP of Financial Security Education & Outreach, will discuss the importance of planning ahead for health care costs in retirement. She’ll show viewers how to use AARP’s free Health Care Costs Calculator to estimate health care expenses and create a personalized action plan. She’ll also share important financial tips to help avoid the pitfalls of planning and achieve retirement goals.

Debbie Banda is Interim Vice President of AARP’s Education & Outreach (E&O) Financial Security team, where she works on retirement decisions and workforce related issues and programs, and serves as a strategic advisor to the Senior Vice President of E&O.   Previous to her current assignment, Debbie was Senior Advisor for the Financial Security team.   She also served as the director of the Massachusetts State Office of AARP for almost 14 years.  Prior to joining AARP in 1999, Debbie was an assistant attorney general and deputy director of communications in the office of Massachusetts Attorney General Scott Harshbarger.  A lifelong resident of Massachusetts, Debbie is a graduate of Suffolk University and Suffolk Law School, and is a member of the Massachusetts Bar.  She also spent more than a decade as a broadcast journalist in the Boston media market.
